Job Description

Position Summary: Join a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of mothers and their babies. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will work directly with the Department of Human Services to support families navigating child welfare services, with a focus on cases involving maternal substance use. In this role, you’ll be a key resource for casework staff, providing training, consultation, and support to guide these families toward healthier lives.You will accompany staff on home visits, offering compassionate assessments, and delivering brief interventions and referrals for additional resources. Responsibilities:

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of Child Protective Services (CPS) as well as Preventive Services’ processes and requirements.
  • Accompany CPS and Preventive caseworkers on home visits, using evidence-based screening tools, or provide direct behavioral health consultation to support families.
  • Conduct screenings and clinical assessments for adults and/or children to identify behavioral health needs early and document findings to aid case management.
  • Use knowledge of local resources to make referrals and serve as a liaison to community behavioral health and other relevant services.
  • Provide psycho-education and training for parents and formal education sessions for child welfare staff twice per year.
  • Develop and monitor Plans of Safe Care for infants affected by substance exposure and provide brief, targeted interventions for families when needed.
  • Offer written recommendations and summaries to caseworkers following screenings and home visits.
  • Assist with referrals to outpatient substance abuse treatment and other services, including aid for victims of violence when appropriate.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field required

Experience:

  • One-Year related professional experience with trauma-informed care and chemical dependency preferred
  • Experience working with clients with SUD or CASAC preferred
  • Driver's License and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment required .
