Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Strategically position CHEST grant-funded education programs for continued growth. Identify new continuing medical education (CME) and continuing education (CE) grant opportunities. Develop and maintain relationships with CME and CE supporters in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Set and achieve revenue goals for grant contributions to Annual Meeting, Board Review, and other in person and online education.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate a passion for crushing lung disease and embody CHEST values: honor the team, lead with integrity, leverage passion, cultivate innovation, and have serious fun.
  2. Develop and maintain understanding of CHEST priorities for education
  3. Identify funding opportunities from commercial supporters (pharmaceutical and medical device industry) and other supporters of CE/CME that align with CHEST education priorities.
  4. With CHEST Education, Digital Learning, and other internal teams, develop funding strategy for CE/CME programs.
  5. Direct all phases of the grant development process and submission of grant proposals to potential funding organizations; including document creation, writing LORs, creating budgets, and entry of all relevant information into grant portals.
  6. Stay abreast of trends and developments in CE/CME, including new and emerging educational modalities. Make recommendations for structural design
  7. Ensure that grant funded programs meet compliance and reporting standards, and that interim reports, final reports, and reconciliations are completed and submitted to funders on time.
  8. Identify and maintain relationships with industry supporters, including pharmaceutical and device industry.
  9. Identify and maintain relationships with collaborators including medical education companies and other providers of medical education.
  10. Represent the organization in negotiation of grant awards, contracts, and agreements.
  11. Ensure that grant awards and letters of agreement are routed and approved through internal CHEST processes.
  12. Stay current in relation to changing grant standards, funder guidelines, compliance requirements and develops grants accordingly.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelors degree and 7 years of directly relevant experience in business development.
  2. Strong knowledge of CME/CE, including identification of gaps and needs, Moore’s levels of outcome assessment, and different teaching modalities (live learning, e-Learning, print, enduring products).
  3. Demonstrated success in securing funding for a variety of CME/CE programs.
  4. Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain contacts.
  5. Understanding of grant submission processes.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to speak to healthcare trends, medical education, and CHEST mission, vision, and educational priorities.
  7. Ability to manage and balance multiple competing priorities/projects
  8. Ability to influence and negotiate through written and verbal communication
  9. Ability to identify and build collaborative solutions that provide organizational opportunities
  10. Ability to identify and foster strategic relationships and alliances
  11. Ability to travel up to 20%.

Additional Information

The annual base salary range for this position is USD $148,000 to USD $158,000. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items. CHEST considers factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
