At Virginia Heart, we are looking for an experienced professional Electrophysiology Nurse Navigator to act as a liaison, advocate, and point of contact to patients by helping them access the best healthcare outcomes from doctors, hospitals, and others who provide their required services. Acts as advisor/educator by providing emotional support, counseling, clinical education, resources, and expert guidance to patients and families to promote their ability to understand, and meaningfully participate in the healthcare process and personal decision-making. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for patients undergoing electrophysiology procedures. 
  • Initiate patients contact once a procedure decision is made. 
  • Develop and maintain a reliable system for documenting and tracking patient progress. 
  • Conduct and review periprocedural and post-procedural follow-ups. 
  • Manage correspondence regarding labs and expected timelines. 
  • Address pre-procedure medication questions and coordinate with physicians. 
  • Assess and triage the urgency of patient symptoms. 
  • Handle patient inquiries the day before the procedure. 
  • Follow up with patients the day after the procedure or discharge. 
  • Serve as the initial contact for non-emergency post-procedure issues. 
  • Identify emergent post-procedure issues requiring immediate medical attention. 
  • Manage last-minute schedule requests or changes. 
  • Follow up on missed or canceled procedures. 
  • Provide pre-surgical education and clarify instruction packets. 
  • Review EP case requests and scheduling sheets for updates. 
  • Verify therapeutic requests with providers. 
  • Conduct site check follow-ups as appropriate. 
  • Acts as a liaison with referring providers, especially external to Virginia Heart, for referrals from outside the practice for EP. 
  • Enters patient data and communication in the EHR accurately and timely.
  • Attend training sessions of new Virginia Heart processes as they are implemented.
  • Reports supply needs to the office manager. 
  • Maintains and cleans equipment per manufacturer’s recommendations. 
  • Expected to read, understand, and follow the Virginia Heart Employee Handbook, Clinical Policy, and Procedure Manual, including updated policies when indicated applicable to the medical assistant’s position. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of a Registered Nurse program
  • Current Virginia State Registered Nurse License in good standing 
  • Catheterization Lab experience preferred
  • At least one year of clinical experience, cardiology experience preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred 
  • Computer Literate
  • Prior experience with the use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols. 
  • Basic knowledge of managed care. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Proficient computer skills
