Job Description

Research Associate 1 Year (Extendable) South San Fran, CA Max PR: $29-34.39/hr Schedule: standard business anytime between 7am - 5pm flexibility is also desired. In vivo support for mouse and rat studies. We're looking for someone with strong common sense and commitment to animal welfare. Ideal candidate: Strong background in in vivo research techniques with hands-on experience handling rodents in a professional lab or industry setting. Proficient in multiple routes of in vivo dosing, including subcutaneous (SC), intraperitoneal (IP), intravenous (IV), and oral (PO) administration, with the ability to efficiently handle and dose a large number of mice (e.g., 40 mice per hour). Experience with rodent blood collection techniques such as tail vein bleeding, cardiac puncture, and other standard methods for plasma/serum collection is essential. Additionally, the candidate should be skilled in basic laboratory tasks, including reagent preparation, plasma and serum processing (centrifugation, pipetting, aliquoting), and necropsy and tissue sampling. The ability to learn additional in vivo techniques, such as surgical procedures, in vivo imaging, mini pump implantation, and post-procedure monitoring, is highly desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, organizational abilities, and attention to detail are critical for success in this role. A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required, along with at least two years of industry experience in a similar role. Prior experience in a vivarium or at a contract research organization (CRO), such as Charles River, is a plus. Competency with preparing reagents (following instructions, performing calculations, etc). Added plus: experience with IVIS imaging and/or echocardiography. Primary support will be mouse work, but ability to handle rats and perform some skills is desirable. Day to Day Responsibilities: ~ Support multiple teams with ongoing projects. Must be able to work independently as well as in a team. Red Flags: Working multiple jobs for short periods of time. Job hopping. Candidates must have held a role for at least a year (preference for 2+ years in one company). Lack of hands-on experience: Candidates must have previous practical experience handling rodents, not just coursework. Lack of attention to detail Resumes with errors or unclear descriptions. Fear of handling animals Job Description: This successful candidate will support discovery research. The technical tasks include performing procedures on laboratory rodents such as handling, dosing via multiple routes, clinical health assessments, biologic sample collection and necropsy. Additional tasks will include training and competency assessment of researchers and assisting with development of new surgical techniques and in vivo research models. The individual will also be responsible for review and compliance with all applicable SOPs, business practices and company policies. Experience: Requirements: The candidate must have an undergraduate degree in life sciences such as biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or similar and 6-10 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and/or an academic laboratory. A successful candidate will possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to work well in teams, demonstrated technical aptitude and a strong work ethic. Good organizational skills and excellent attention to detail are vital to this position. Experience handling and performing basic manipulations with laboratory rodents is a must. A background in rodent technique training and rodent surgical experience is a plus. Familiarity with cardiovascular disease and inflammation models is a plus.
